Who we are

Dr Richard Margrave is a senior policy and communications professional with direct experience of journalism, the legislative and political environment and the formulation of national and international policy.  He is President of Margrave Communications Ltd, London, UK.

He has worked directly for a number of politicians in the UK and European Parliament, including the Rt Hon Jack Straw MP, formerly Justice Secretary under Prime Minister Rt Hon Gordon Brown MP and Rt Hon Charles Clarke, former Education and Home Secretary in Prime Minister Rt Hon Tony Blair MP’s cabinet.

Dr Margrave has advised political parties and groupings in the UK and Europe and trained top personnel in the Offices of the President of the European Parliament, the Secretary General of the Council of Europe, European Parliament officials from missions across Europe, the European Patent Office, European Satellite Agency and the European Commission.

He is President of Margrave Communications Ltd., a consulting firm that advises a substantial number of causes, charities and not-for-profit organisations in the UK and Europe on media handling, policy formulation and dissemination and public affairs, including the Cambridge Primary Review, the biggest investigation into primary education (5-11 year olds) in England for forty years led by the University of Cambridge and funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation in the UK.

He is a writer and broadcaster, appearing in UK newspapers such as the Times, Sunday Times, Guardian and Times Educational Supplement and on national television and radio.  His PhD dissertation on international labour mobility was published in New York in the ‘Outstanding Dissertations from the London School of Economics’ series.  The study followed a chain migration of textile workers and entrepreneurs from Macclesfield, Cheshire UK to Paterson, NJ in the late nineteenth century.

Dr Margrave received his BSc(Econ) from University College, London and his PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics and Political Science.


Marjorie Ellis Thompson is a highly accomplished professional with almost 30 years of experience in public affairs/lobbying on both sides of the Atlantic, political PR and communications campaigning across the UK and Europe, and as one of the world’s authorities on cause-related or social marketing.

Founding Trustee of Stand to Reason, charity promoting social justice in mental health and particularly in the workplace, having served on:

Marjorie is passionate about democracy and active citizen involvement, her Jack Russell Ria de Janeira and watching Wales play rugby.
